Partnering with the Academic Community
OSEC’s education mission includes plans to provide training programs, degree opportunities and scholarships by working in collaboration with nearby universities and colleges.
Dan Elcan, CEO, states,“OSEC plans to work with Utah State University’s Vernal Campus and the local community colleges to offer scholarships and courses designed for various employment opportunities.”
Workforce training
OSEC realizes a key factor in the success of developing oil shale will be the quality of its workforce. Ongoing support of training and certification for mining applicants will be critical in order to meet Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requirements. OSEC will partner with Utah State University’s Vernal Campus and the Uinta Basin Applied Technical College to develop in-depth programs and curriculum to establish a well-trained workforce.
Research
Academic institutions also provide important research and analysis for developing technologies in the energy sector. OSEC values and supports these programs that will provide substantial benefits to an emerging oil shale industry.
OSEC recently sponsored an internship at Utah State University’s Vernal Campus. Interns assisted mine engineers as historical data and research from the former White River Shale Project was compiled. |
